I’ve been robbed!

May 5th, 2008

This isn't a rant about shoddy retail practices or the price of gas - I've actually been robbed.

As Trish and I got into my car this morning to leave for work, I noticed a few odd things. First, the Storage Compartment in the Center Console, as well as the Glove Box, were wide open. Checking both, nothing was missing. A few coupons for Wendy's that were in the cubby hole in the dash, were instead sitting on the passenger seat.

Most notably though, two things were missing: A pair of sunglasses that were in the same cubby as the Wendy's coupons, and the Spare Change dish in the center console (more accurately it's an ashtray, but I don't use it for that).

The Sunglasses retailed for about $15.00 at Zellers, so I'm not terribly upset in that regard. I clearly forgot to lock my car, and that's pretty much no fault but my own. I was a little worried at the Change Dish missing however, since it's colour-matched to the interior of the car, and figured it would cost more than a few bucks to order a replacement from Mitsubishi.

That was until Trish noticed the Change Dish sitting in a neighbour's front yard, two doors down. She ran out and grabbed it - not a scratch on it. Sure it was empty, but it had all of maybe $3.00 in it anyway.

So in total, I had about $18.00 stolen from my car. CDs, Tools, a Blackberry, and a few other items were all left behind. $18.00, for a valuable lesson about making sure my car is locked.

I think I can live with that.
